Google Maps Update Adds Event Listings on Android

Google Maps received an update on Android today that patches a few bugs and adds a new feature that should help you find something fun to do this weekend. The improved app now offers information on upcoming events and performances when you search for a specific venue, pulling them from the Internet when available.

Google announced the update online with a picture of the app listing upcoming shows at a Jazz Club in London, demonstrating that Google Maps will be able to keep you up to date on future concerts. The app also works at other types of venues. Search for your local sports arena or ballpark in Google Maps on Android and you’ll see a quick list of upcoming home games and other events.

It’s a nice update and a smart way to keep people using Google Maps, though we imagine most Android users are already pretty addicted to the app. There’s no word on whether the feature will make its way to iOS as well, but we’re guessing it won’t take very long. If we’re lucky it might even include listings for daily deals and discounts at restaurants as well.
